Emergency Medical responder
- Course Description
This course is designed to instruct a student to the level of Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and prepare for licensure in Vermont at that level. - It is the goal of this course to provide students with the core knowledge, skills and attitudes to function in the capacity of an EMR. The EMR uses limited amount of equipment to perform initial assessment and intervention and is trained to assist other levels of EMS providers. While this is Vermont’s entry level for EMS licensure, an EMR is not intended or authorized to be the sole patient care provider in an ambulance.
- EMRS serve in an environment requiring special skills and knowledge. They serve as liaisons with other emergency services. This course will provide an introduction to these concepts. Individual orientation to the specific services and settings that the EMR will encounter is necessary to achieve full competency within a specific organization.
Course Objectives
EMRs serve as a vital link in the chain of the EMS health care team. This curriculum includes the skills necessary for any individual to provide emergency medical care at the minimum entry level, including: - Recognizing the seriousness of the patient’s condition or extent of injuries to assess requirements for emergency medical care.
- Administer appropriate emergency medical care for life threatening injuries relative to airway, breathing and circulation:
- Perform safely and effectively the expectations of the job description.
